Introduction
I first joined Laven Partners as a summer intern in June of 2024, spending nearly four months at the company. I decided to return this summer as a Risk Management Intern for an additional three months. Across both internships, I’ve had the privilege to learn from seasoned risk and compliance professionals, to contribute to meaningful projects and engage directly with clients.
First impressions
From my very first day, the team at Laven Partners was exceptionally welcoming. Their mentorship and support quickly building the confidence and technical knowing needed to contribute to ongoing projects. The firms collaborative culture making it truly easy to integrate with the team and grow as a professional.
Responsibilities
Over the course of the two summers that I have now spent at Laven Partners, my responsibilities have been varied and intellectually stimulating. I have had the opportunity to join client calls, learning about the various sectors in which our clients operate in. I was encouraged to take ownership of projects that were not only commercially relevant but also aligned with my personal development goals.
The teams support extended far beyond just task execution. Instead, they consistently went the extra mile to ensure I understood the broader regulatory and risk frameworks, breaking down complex concepts into manageable insights, fostering both competence and further curiosity.
Learning
My time at Laven Partners has significantly deepened my understanding of the compliance landscape and financial markets more broadly. Through the firm’s regulatory hosting model, I worked on projects for clients ranging from placement agents to boutique merchant banks. This diversity providing a unique insight into the breadth of the industry.
This role also allowed me to rekindle my programming skills, building several risk management tools – including Monte Carlo and parametric VaR models – and building a program to support the sales process for a new business line. Beyond technical work, I had the opportunity to contribute to client calls, interacting with the management teams, an experience that both challenged me and sharpened my communication skills.
Conclusion
Interning at Laven Partners has been an exceptional experience, so much so that I chose to return. The work is both engaging and diverse, with a culture where professional growth is actively nurtured across all levels. I’m grateful for the opportunity that I have had to contribute learn from and grow within such a forward-thinking and supportive environment.
